Announced for several years, the idea of creating an institution effectively consolidating foundry sector, important for the national economy, has finally found its embodiment in the establishment of  POLISH FOUNDRY CENTRE . On 17 July 2000, the Centre was established on the premises of Foundry Research Institute in Cracow by the following statutory bodies:

The main tasks of the Polish Foundry Centre include:

  • systematic foundry monitoring, using obligatory statistical reporting system and analyses,
  • market analysis of the main sectors of the casting end users to know the current development trends and requirements set for castings as components of final products,
  • analysis of world markets, problems of international competition, trends and tendencies in the development of foundry technologies, and dissemination of information through publications and internet networks,
  • analysis of price evolution for basic and auxiliary materials and of energy and labour costs at home and abroad, considered the main element of casting costing and pricing in the international competitive market,
  • coordination of scientific, research and development activity for optimum management of financial budget resources assigned by the Polish Committee of Scientific Research for target projects, research grants, and other types of activity of the Polish R&D bodies, including information and information-related systems, and for better implementation of EU R&D resources, especially within the 5. Framework Programme,
  • raising the active capabilities for better assistance to small and medium enterprises operating in foundry sector, using for this purpose all available domestic and international means,
  • consulting and advisory activities in all matters regarding the repair programmes and management of the processes of bankruptcy and liquidation, creating also the relevant databases with information on possible purchase of machines and equipment from the closed foundry plants,
  • running and rendering available the databases with information on the supply of materials, apparatus and equipment for foundries, including promotion of the domestic suppliers,
  • permanent exposition of databases and offers for the customers and users of castings,
  • development of rules and principles to avoid dumping and unfair competition; acting as mediator in disputes with ready solutions offered to the disputing parties,
  • coordination and organisation of training programmes for foundry personnel according to EU standards and requirements,
  • coordination and organisation of seminars, symposia, conferences, fairs and other foundry events,
  • elaboration of strategy  for foundry sector development in Poland and active participation in its implementation.
